RE: mileage with a diesel

I have a 2004 Dodge 2500 with the Cummins. I pull a thirty foot HR Presidential fiver with 3 slides. I also carry an eight pound dog, a wife who weighs more than the dog (That's all I can safely say), 14 pair of shoes and two kayaks. I pulled it to South Texas from Indiana last December and back again in May. The trip down at 65 MPH was mostly spent in a pretty nasty headwind and I averaged about 10 MPG. The trip home was a little better at 11.5 I just returned to Indiana from a 6000 mile trip to the Northwest. We left the dog and the HR at home but we took the wife and the 14 pair of shoes. I also had a camper shell on the back of the truck. On the highway, The lowest tank full, I averaged 18 mpg, the highest was 22 mpg and the rest in between. I also did a lot of driving in Seattle which resulted in a 15 mpg tank. I was never able to put any rhyme or reason to the averages. However, for the whole trip, I averaged 18.5 MPG. I have the standard automatic transmission and the engine is stock, no chip adjustments or anything. g2

RE: gray and black water gate valves.

It would be leaking water to the cap were it not for the added valve in front of it.

gray and black water gate valves.

I have a 2002 Holiday Rambler Presidential and I am having trouble closing the gate valves using the push/pull handles attached to cables that are attached to the valves. The handles are in a central unit where all the water functions are taken care of. I bought the Unit used a couple of years ago and have never really been able to make the valves work correctly. I know the cables aren't broken becase pushing the handles makes for a spongy feel. I assume the previous owner had the same problem because he installed a valve on the end of the drain line. Also, the dealership that sold me this unit told me they had replaced the black water mechanism. Is this a common problem among this type of unit or is it something I can fix? This is a four season coach and the bottom is covered so I can't even see what the problem might be. Any guidance would be appreciated.

RE: hauling kayaks

Thanks for all the suggestions. We are currently in South Texas and when we get back to Indiana, I'm going to talk to my friendly welding shop and see what we can come up with. g2

hauling kayaks

We have a 30 foot HR with 3 slides and we also have two 11.5 foot kayaks. When we travel, we put the kayaks inside the fiver but as you might guess, it's awkward and quite a pain in the rear to have them in there. I am considering building some sort of cradle to haul them underneath in front of the axles. I have no idea whether this will work or not. I have the clearance but that's all I know. Does anyone out there have any experience in successfully (or unsuccessfully) doing this? What would the wind do to them? Thanks, g2
